Civil/Infrastructure (VRD) Engineer – Photovoltaic Projects

  • Contract: Freelance partnership with either occasional assignments (targeted site visits) or recurring support (project follow-up for up to 2 days per week, over an agreed period). Possibility to combine several assignments depending on availability

  • Workplace: France

  • Main points of contact: Primarily the company’s internal civil engineering expert and Project Managers

  • Travel: Local travel required

  • Remuneration: Daily rate (TJM) depending on profile and type of assignment

  • Experience: Background in earthworks, utilities/infrastructure (VRD) and civil engineering; knowledge of ground-mounted PV specificities is a plus

  • Start date: As soon as possible

Skyray is an engineering and consultancy company (Owner’s Engineer) specialised in the design, engineering and delivery of utility-scale photovoltaic and energy storage (BESS) projects, connected to MV/HV grids. We support our clients throughout the entire project lifecycle, from design through commissioning.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Context:

As part of the development of our photovoltaic and energy storage (BESS) projects in France, we aim to build a network of freelance civil engineering/VRD partners who can provide local, on-site support and technical expertise.

Today, our internal civil engineering expert team mainly works on design, design review, and construction monitoring. To strengthen our on-the-ground presence, we are looking for specialists able to carry out site inspection visits. The goal is to improve responsiveness, secure project delivery, and provide technical solutions directly on site. Projects are located in France and across Europe, and the consultant will support the existing teams.

Your Main tasks

Assignments may vary depending on your location, skills and availability:

1. Site visits to support decision-making

• Assess compliance of works with execution documents, standards, and professional rules (earthworks, drainage, utilities/infrastructure (VRD), foundations, and civil works).

• Produce written reports: structured visit reports, risk identification and action plans, well-argued technical recommendations.

2.Occasional technical support (depending on profile)

• Review technical documentation.

• Provide design input (earthworks, foundations, drainage, utilities/infrastructure (VRD)).

• Coordinate with internal teams (PMs, engineers).

PROFILE

We are seeking several complementary profiles, including:

  • Civil Engineering / Utilities & Infrastructure (VRD) Engineer or Expert

    – Engineering degree (or equivalent)

    – Experience in earthworks / VRD / site development & infrastructure, or industrial projects

    – Strong ability to read drawings and solid technical understanding

    – General geotechnical knowledge (adapting foundation and earthworks solutions to ground conditions)

  • Hybrid Civil Engineering / Renewables profile (ideal)

    – Experience in ground-mounted PV, renewables, or similar infrastructure projects

    – Understanding of specific constraints: PV structures (trackers, driven piles, etc.), BESS, buried cabling

    – Knowledge of French standards

    – Experience in site supervision / construction follow-up

Languages

  • Strong French proficiency, both written and spoken, is required.

    Professional English is an additional asset (for potential international collaborations).
